Can bad battery cause extreme overheating?

Hey!

So my HTC one m8 wont charge after a fall. It will show picture, but wont charge (i.e stuck on the same per cent) And its running very hot and when i use the phone in the same time, its just too hot to even touch it. And the led blinks orange. Now i think, is it possible, that the battery got damaged after the drop and now is acting wierd?

Mart Kask , Yes it could, battery or board shorting. The link below is to your device, to show how to dismantle so you can check/change the battery and board/charge port for connection issues/ damage/burnt/loose components/etc. Flashing orange light means the battery level reached very low or not communicating properly. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

What are the odds of it being a battery problem? What else can be the problem? When i turn it on, it sometimes randonly shuts itself back off again. I have opened it several times now and it seems to get warm on the bottom of the back side very fast and then the whole device (yes, even the display)

@mart_tech, Mart, is there any sign of damage on the battery, is it bulging at all or does it smell funny, leaking, etc.these are for sure signs of bad battery, other wise could be a Motherboard issue(shorting). Would be nice to have another battery to try. May be if you can, try a factory reset, just in case as this can some times fix weird issues caused by corrupt firmware/Apps,etc.. See link below for reset instructions.

Well i used a heat gun on the motherboard, so i could "resolder" the chips. This fixed the issue, where i couldnt even get a display. The motherboard seem to get very hot near the battery connector (but there arent any PMIC there)
