many problems could be causing this, however these are the more common ones.
1) DFU Mode. DFU mode is a recovery mode apple uses to bypass certain limitations of standard recovery mode. in DFU mode, there is no image displayed on the screen. To get it out of DFU mode. simply soft reset. Press and hold Home, and power for up to 15 seconds, or until the apple logo appears.
2) Screen Failure. the device could simply be on silent, with a failure in your LCD. This failure could be caused by either the LCD itself being bad, or the Image processing chips failing. The first of which is a simple repair, and there are plenty of guides on this site for it. The next is much more intricate, and requires a specific skillset. leave that type of repair to paid technicians.
3) Water damage. I see screens fail, and forced recovery mode frequently after water damage. bather the board in isopropyl for 5 minutes, then give it a stern scrubbing with a toothbrush. then bather it in the isopropyl again. This MAY fix the issue.
4) further board failure. The mother board could have extensive failures beyond repair. at this point, it makes more sense money wise, to just replace the device.

It likely that your phone is charged but there are no sound or vibration because the phone won't boot. If the screen was working you'd probably see the "connect to iTunes" screen. I'd restore the phone through iTunes and see if you then get setup screens in iTunes confirming that the phone has restored and booted successfully then replace the screen. However if I doesn't restore look at th lightning port or battery as a first port of call.
