Not turning on, Not recognized on computer or iTunes.

Hi guys,

I have not been able to get my older iPod touch going in a long time! I'm pretty good at troubleshooting so the obvious I've already tried. I am confident that physically it is in great condition and this is a software issue. When I bought it within a few months the 5th GEN come out and I didn't update the new iTunes right away. When I tried later on it kept failing so I got frustrated and it sat. Anyway, since then I've spent hours looking up how. So:

- The screen is completely black. Including plugged into the wall, the computer or holding power button/ home combos.

-Is not recognized by the computer

-Is not recognized in iTunes.

-No Apple logo

-No iTunes logo

USB fine. Not broken, cracked, or damaged in anyway.

I understand it is older and will have limits but I bought it so I'd like to use it haha..considering .

I'll give any advice a shot and update

Thank You!

Not knowing the circumstances prior to failure... If the unit has not been used for an extended period the battery will probably need to be replaced and is likely the problem to begin with. If the batteries condition drops below par it will not charge, and the for the layman, unit will not turn on without a battery with sufficient voltage, plugged in or not.

Try to reboot it.

Hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears.

It often helps

I built this just now from known working motherboard and tested battery before install.... dead as a door nail, including taking voltage reading after battery attached to the motherboard and it read 0v. Disconnect the battery, checking with the voltmeter, 3.84v... Remove the connection to charging port ribbon cable as you can see in the photo, recheck battery after reattaching it to the motherboard… PRESTO! I either had a bad connection to the ribbon cable, or bad ribbon cable, or both. Again the battery read zero absolute zero(with it fully charged) until I disconnected the ribbon cable and the voltage back. Anyway, food for thought.
