iPad 2 Turning On/Off Constantly during screen replacement

I'm in the middle of replacing my iPad 2 screen. When I went to remove the old cracked screen, I placed the plastic removal tool above the mute/volume buttons and began to gently pry. The iPad 2 instantly turned on, showed the apple logo, then turned back off and it keeps doing this over and over. The iPad 2 turns on automatically, shows apple logo for a few seconds, then powers off. I got it to stop finally somehow and I removed the old screen but it started to turn on/off again automically. Did I mess up a sensor or is this normal during screen replacement? The cables by the mute/volume buttons look totally intact but I don't want to put the new screen on until I know what the problem is. Does anyone know what happened or how to fix it? Thank you!!!

Let's try disconnecting the battery, remove everything, cleaning everything, put the LCD and digitizer on, then reconnect the battery. Can't find a good picture right now. Network errors. If you still have the issue, you'll need to put the iPad into dfu, and restore to a backup. You probably won't be able to do this while it's apart, as you'll need the home button

Plug your device into your computer with a USB cable.

Turn off the device.

Hold the Power button for 3 seconds.

Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds.

Release the Power button but keep holding the Home button.

So I jostled the power flex cable a tiny bit and the iPad booted up. However, the power button no longer works whatsoever. The volume buttons work but I don't think the mute switch works (can't really test the mute button). Everything with the iPad seems fine now except for the power button not working so maybe it was the power button/cable? I think I might have torn it when I was prying off the screen but I was super gentle and the cable looks totally intact. I did notice when I tap the flex cable, it turns up the volume on the iPad. Is it possible to tear the power flex cable but still have it look intact? Any other suggestions since I've pinned it down to the power button now? Thanks again!
