Shift key not working and all caps. New keyboard did not fix it.

Hi all,

Since a few days my left shift key is not working. It;s possible due some liquid spill. I found some spots on the battery and the back on the touchpad.

At all time all the letters are all caps. I managed to fix it with some software, Karabiner. Without configuring some settings it's disabling the caps. But the shift key still isn't working.

Side note: An external usb apple keyboard is working fine, even the left shift. Also I reinstalled MacOS completely.

Today I replaced the internal keyboard and backlight with no results.

What can I do next? What are the possible fixes? Touchpad?

Kind regards

From there, I would try a test trackpad cable and trackpad. Check the keyboard connector on the trackpad to see if any pins are corroded or burnt. Also check both sides of the trackpad cable (sometimes this is burnt, although I have replaced a few which were bad but didn't look bad).

If it is none of the above, it will be a logic board issue. Try the above first though to eliminate this being the case.

Thankyou for your answer. SMC reset is working after the keyboard replacement. Weird. But I can't see anything weird on the cables. Is there a way to check the cable or trackpad? What is more likely? Trackpad cable? Trackpad itself?

@kobus try the cable first, they cost just £4 over here. I had a 13" Air before, where the power button was working to turn it on, but not registering it being held down to turn it off (or vice versa). A new trackpad cable resolved the issue, even though it looked perfectly fine. If the trackpad has no corrosion on any of the components, it is most likely the cable.

Thank you for your reaction. Where did you see the cables? I only can find them over 20 euro's.

@kobus here is a UK seller I usually buy these from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/13-MacBook-Air...

It costs about 4$ from China, so I usually just get them from this guy when I need them, since it's quicker.
