Touch ID not working after front camera replacement

Hi!

So I bought an iPhone with a cracked screen. Replaced the screen and tested the functionality of the home button and touch id - they worked fine. Then i noticed that the front camera was not working. Bought a new one and changed it and it begun working

Now when I try to add a fingerprint or enable Touch ID it gives me the error "Touch ID cannot be activated".

The home button and 3D touch are working fine.

Thing I have tried:

  • Clean and reinstall connectors on screen/motherboard
  • Clean install through iPhone and iTunes
  • Software update

Is there something else I could try? I am hesitant to buy another screen for this problem.

Hi

First, a new screen will not solve the problem.

Second you'll need to check the home button flex cable and more important, since I dont think you dissasembled the home button at the bottom of the screen, check the flex cable running behind the LCD backplate, I do think you disconnected this cable/connector.

This flex cable is running from your home button tot the motherboard. Check it, or order a new flex cable and test if the fingerprint sensor is working (dont forget to restart the iPhone every time you want to check , otherwise it will not work anyway).

And check the connector on the motherboard... clean al connectors with isopropanol... and check the surrounding parts soldered on the motherboard. maybe you damaged something by mistake

Good luck

Hey!

Thank you for answering. I forgot to mention that I did clean and check the home button connector with no avail. The flex cable seemed fine visually, but that of course doesn't tell much.

The home button flex cable is integrated to the screen on iPhone 6s, and it seems that other people are struggling with the same issue as me:

Aftermarket 6s screens can have a bad home button extension cable.

This is most likely the case. Usually happens on the cheaper aftermarket screens.
