Is there anyway to repair the usb ports on the front of the fat ps3, I've tried multiple controls on this one PS3 and nothing works still. It looks like these ports or glued on the board, so i'm just asking how can I get around this if in all repairable.

The USB ports are soldered to the board and unless there is physical damage to the USB ports I would not bother replacing them. Sony was nice enough to use proprietary ports that are on their motherboard so purchasing replacement ones from Digi-Key is not an option. Instead, obtaining another motherboard from a broken PS3 would be the best option if you do want to replace the ports. If you have never soldered before and the USB ports are your only problem, then I recommend that you strive to find someone who is experienced with that. Replacing the motherboard all together is a bad idea as well since the Blu-Ray drive and motherboard are married together and must be paired, and spoofing the drive to match the motherboard is not something I have seen done on a PS3 yet.

thanks for the response, i'm happy with all you said, so before reading this, I was looking to buy a replacement online and I found one on ebay. However I tried a little something before even buying one from ebay. I took the port out, fluxed it very well and I heated up all the chips on both sides of the usb ports and wow it's working again, so i'll see and hope this hold up if it does then maybe that is also an option.
