Right USB Port doesn't work!

Hi folks,

I have another problem with my 15 inch MacBook Pro of 2015...

After replacing the screen twice, replacing the logicboard once due to technical problems and replacing the lower case including battery and keyboard due to a water damage, I can't use the right USB Port anymore.

Several external USB 3 HDDs and some USB Stick working sometimes. But mostly it doesn't work.

I reseted the PRAM, NVRAM and I made a Hardwaretest, without any problem signed.

Do you have any idea?

Greetings from Germany

Florian

Can you give me the board number? In that way I can give you the exactly component name to be replace it, it happen to me a couple times with different models, there is a driver filter that stop working and you have to replace it or the "USB driver" (is an IC) sometimes is in the same shape, sometimes work sometimes not, send the board number and I will send you the number and name of this IC.

Before you dig to deep here how about doing a simple test to see whats happening. Get a powered USB hub (one that gets its power for a power cord). Make sure its the correct power adapter for the unit. Then plug in the powered hub into this bad port and then connect a passive USB device into the hub (USB thumb drive). Can you see the device? If you do you've narrowed the problem down to a burn't fuse link.

Remember the system offers power to USB devices so if the fuse link is burnt the device is not getting power. You do need to think what did you plug in that burnt the fuse in the first place. You may want to review the power adapters of your devices making sure you didn't use the wrong one.

  • Tip: I use a label maker to mark what goes with what

You may want to look at your AC power make sure your outlets are properly wired and grounded. I do recommend using a good surge suppressor or better yet a UPS. Also check the cords and any USB cables for damage. Remember something burnt the fuse.

As to fixing things here the fuse link is an easy fix for someone with good SMT soldering skills and has access to the part.
