Just connect it to the computer it was set up on and tell it to restore. That should fix it. Check out this Apple support page.

ok thank you so much =] it worked. my brothers friends gonna be happy =] i hope this never happends to my ipod XD

Well i beleive that was worth waiting around for two and a bit hours

da

I can verify that this method here does work.

i dont' remember who said it, but yes they can be disabled for 21,000,000 minutes. Im looking at one right now... or at least the number of minutes that equals about 41 years - my husband and son did the math. He lost his IPOD in the recliner for the past week and apparently every time someone sat down or moved around it turned on and tried to log in. The suggestion above seems to be working to restore it... still have about 40 minutes to go... but he's not overly happy at losing all of his apps and the videos he took at school last year.

connect your iPod to iTunes

hold down the power and home button for 10 seconds

let go of the power button and keep holding the home button for 8 seconds

this will put your iPod in DFU mode? and then iTunes will say the iPod needs to be restored to be used with iTunes

and click restore

This has happened to my daughter's iPod Touch. Wish I'd taken a photo of the screen... disabled for 20+ million minutes. Hah.

Anyway, the answer to this question is all over the Internet tubes.

As Mactech+ says, hooking it back to iTunes and downloading an update will fix it. I don't think it has anything to do with being stolen or messing with the password, and if a guy can't get his answer on iFixit, what's the world coming to?

In this case, the iPod was left aside for a few weeks and it discharged almost completely, though I don't know if that's what triggered it. At this point, I'm suspicious of the crappy no-brand little speaker-dock thing she used to try to bring it back from near-death.

In any case, STILL you need the password to get in. IF Chris was a crook, he'd be locked out anyway.

(Would a crook come to iFixit? iFixit attracts only the BEST people. I suspect all the criminals are over at iHow.)

I lost my ipod a while ago, but I did get it back though....and when i did, it said "Ipod disabled Connect to Itunes" Well, the computer I had it first synced with in itunes is some what fried, so I don't have Itunes or a computer right now.

But the good news is:

1-Fully Charge Your Ipod Battery.

2-Completely Let Your Ipod Battery Die.

3-Plug Your Ipod Back into Charger, and there you go. It should now be unlocked and able to get to the Passcode screen.

I have an wall outlet charger, Im not sure if that makes any difference but that's what WORKED for me. Hope this helps you and anyone else who gets the annoying red disabled screen =D

I believe this is an error caused by letting the battery drain completely. I replaced the digitizer on an iPhone, however it had set for about three weeks before the repair, causing the battery to completely drain. When I finished the repair and charged it, it showed me a 5 million minute unlock time. Since this is very similar to Bill's case above, it seems to me that it's likely related to draining the battery.

the 21 million minute solution for me involved:

Plug iPod into it's companion Mac and it went from 21,000,000 to 1 instantly.

Home screen came on and that was that.

No sync. No update. Just eject and go to town.

My itouch is disabled too, i tried all the "holding down the buttons" techniques, i tried to restore it on my laptop, but its telling me it has 3 hours remaining, i got as far as half way to restoring then it timed out and stopped, ive had to restart this process 5 times now. Nothing seems to be working to get back to my passcode screen. Ill never let a toddler play with my itouch again!

the downloadtimes for the IOS are extremely slow at the moment. since ios5 is released the apple servers are very busy - you have not so many options - one is to wait and try from time to time or the other one is to try a different source for the file (but that's sometimes pretty dangerous)

You don't need to restore. Just open itunes, hook up ipod and once it starts to sync open slider to cancel type in password.

I had the same issue with my son's iPod touch and I agree that the battery draining could cause it (seems to be the case here).

I tried the various apps that were supposed iPhone browsers, through which I was supposed to be able to remove lock - no go.

I also attached to my Windows computer and launched iTunes, in which it kept giving me a message that it couldn't connect (forget exact message, but it actually isn't important here.

What *did* work was I went to my Mac (important? don't know) and logged on as a user that didn't use iTunes and launched iTunes for very first time (with iPod already attached). I was able to synch the iPod and when I looked at it, it was no longer disabled.

Just thought I would drop my solution on here, nothing above worked for me. The method I finally found was to power my ipod off, plug in the sync cord (without the Ipod attached) then plug the cord into my ipod while holding the home button. This tells the ipod something is wrong with the software and allows you to recover it on itunes.

If you encrypt an iPod backup on iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.

If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you can use a SmartKey iTunes Backup Password Recovery to unlock iTunes backup password at first.
