Can't connect JBL Flip 3 and JBL Charge 3 properly

Whenever I try to connect both of my speakers JBL Flip 3 and JBL Charge 3 to my iPhone 7 one of them the music keep cutting ( depends which one is the main speaker) The main speaker I'm connected to play music perfectly the other one keep disconnecting specially when I change the volume, change the songs, or even move the speaker. If I connect to only one of them alone without using the JBL connect feature the speaker works perfectly.

- Both speakers appear connected on bluetooth page on mobile device

-Both speakers appear connected on JBL connect app

- Both speakers firmware are up to date

- Iphone 7 IOS up to date

- Tried different mobile device and even a MBP had same problem

- Tried un-pairing, pairing again had same problem

- Tried reseting both speakers problem unsolved

- Tried turning off all bluetooth devices in the room as the sound keep cutting as if there is something interfering with it. Same problem

Can anyone help?

I have jbl xtreem but i cant connect it to jbl charge 4 please help me. l use huawei y5 prime 2018

It’s because the flip 3 don’t support connect + and once you did the update on the charge speaker to add connect plus the flip and charge won’t be compatible after the update

I doubt it, man. Did you ever find a way? In my experience, Firmware Upgrades go “one way”.

I have sold my flip 3 and bought another charge 3. This will make it also possible to play both speakers stereo.

Hi

This problem seems to be only with IOS based devices. I tested this with iphone, ipad and Samsung Galaxy A3.

Instead of your speakers I have two JBL charge 3 speakers, but have the same problem.

To understand connections by bluetooth better, I renamed by JBL Connect app the speakers as JBL1 and JBL2. This is not necessary if you have different names already.

The solution is this:

Connect iphones bluetooth only with ONE speaker so that the power button of the connected speaker will change blue. The other speakers power button will stay white.

Go to JBL Connect app and after you see the connected speaker push the orange JBL Connect button and just after that push the Connect button on both speakers.

JBL Connect will do the pairing.

Select either party mode or stereo mode.

Play the music, increase or decrease the volume or do anything else, it will work.

If you now have a look at the bluetooth settings of iphone, you will see the connected device twice on the device list.

If you connect also the other speakers bluetooth connection on, you will have the problem back.

Flip 3 to Charge3 - figured it out. Make sure your device recognizes both speakers but be sure that 1 is not connected. Start music on one JBL with the other JBL disconnected from device AND powered off. Then power on hit JBL Connect button and you are in like flint….jam on

First thing I did was reset both speakers as suggested by troubleshooting guide.

This was done by holding the Volume + and the Phone button for 3 seconds. This will reset to factory settings.

After that did not work, I downloaded the JBL connect app, and upgraded the firmware on both speakers.

Now I am able to have them connect as long as I pair them both to my iPhone, then press the connect button on both speakers.

The new firmware of JBL charge 3 can connect until 100 JBL speakers but the new firmware is incompatible with older JBL speakers, including JBL flip 3. This new feature is called Connect+. In this case only a downgrade can solve the problem.

While you can do all the above, my issue was resolved by (1) ensuring that Bluetooth was turned on on the iPhone 7, (2) powered on the JBL Flip 3. At this point the speaker still was not discovered by the phone. What is missing is you must pressed the small raised Bluetooth insignia on the grill area of the speaker, which starts the pairing process with the iPhone. This allowed the speaker to be discovered and connected with the iPhone.

The JBL Connect Plus speakers (JBL Pulse 3 and Flip 4) are only compatible with one another. Thus, you can't connect any older speakers to the newer Connect Plus speakers. If you still have the 2.2.0 version of the Pulse 3 or Flip 4, there is an update available. I am doing it as we speak. I hope this helps someone.

As of April 2018...

Pairing the following speakers:

JBL FLIP 3

< and >

JBL CHARGE 3

Main Issue: Updating Firmware on JBL Charge 3 will cause JBL Flip 3 to no longer PAIR correctly.

I agree with the rest...you CANNOT RUN the latest Firmware Update on the JBL Charge 3!!

EVERYONE should contact JBL (Harmon) and demand an UPDATE to the JBL Flip 3 (to pair).

The way I did it...I had JUST received the JBL Charge 3, and I DID NOT run the update, etc.

So, I was able to press the “pairing symbol” on the JBL Flip 3 FIRST... then paired w/Charge 3

I think the KEY is to do it the way “Ken Bird” said in his answer...to pair the Flip 3 FIRST!!

This is ALL assuming you DID NOT run the Firmware Update on the JBL Charge 3, etc.

Otherwise, you’ll have to “cross your fingers” that JBL comes out with an Update for Flip 3!

I hope this helps some of you guys out...

The most important thing to connect both speakers to your phone is connecting only one speaker through bluetooth.

When a jbl flip4 connected through bluetooth, the power button turns blue. So your 1st flip4 should be blue light on power button and another is white.

Try this way;

1. Turn on both speakers and confirm only one connected to the phone.

2. Open JBL connect app on your phone.

3. Turn on JBL connect+ button on both speakers.

4. Wait a moment and the JBL connect app will show the two speakers are connected to your phone. You can toggle party/stereo mode on the app.
