My iPhone 6S+ camera won't stop shaking?

The camera on my iPhone 6S+ has recently begun shaking uncontrollably for absolutely no reason whenever the app is open. Video timelapse, everything is affected the same way, no matter what app is used. I've scoured the internet looking for others having the same problem, and I have found plenty of *6+* users but no 6S+ phones affected. Does anyone have a quick fix or do I need to send the phone back?

Same issue happening here. I can actually hear the lens stabilization failing. I have a appointment at Apple on Friday. I am out of warranty but I am hoping they replace as my rear camera is completely useless now. Also in a separate issue, I have seen a significant performance drop recently. Fingers crossed.

da

Same issue happening to me. Did you resolve?

da

Hey guys did you fix the camera?

I have the same issue for my 6s+..

da

I brought it in to Apple and they wanted $55 for repair, which they said may or may not actually fix it. I am a bit !#^&@@ they couldn't provide me with a camera that lasts two years, so I declined to give them more money. I can wait until I pay this off and upgrade.

Sidenote, I have had iPhones since the 1st gen and this model in particular has been the absolute worst in terms of bugs and now severe hardware issues.

da

I fixed the problem!! I hope it works for you guys, but just tap repeatedly on the back of your phone where the camera sensor is, hard, but not to hard to damage the camera.

Well, Apple does have a program, replacing these cameras for 6+. You could ask Apple if they'd be willing to do it for yours

Thank you, Uncle @mayer

da

Ok person that can't be identified, they still have a program for it. And thank you again @mayer my answer is way better afteer your suggestion

da

Were you successful in having your phone repaired or replaced?

da

They are not willing to do so. (source: I called Apple about this issue this morning and they told me the 6S+ does not qualify.)

So interesting i put a magnet in front, on the upper right hand of the screen just opposite the rear camera and it completely stops the shaking. My camera works just like new! I got the magnet from an old ipad case (you know the really thin ones, and coin sized.) cut it into a smaller piece And stuck it underneath my iphone case and voila! The shaking is completely gone! Just a temporary fix anyway until i get a new phone some time in the future.

Thanks. It works for me too. As soon as a magnet comes close to the front side of the backside camer the shaking stops. Strange but a cheap solution :)

da

See my permanent fix somewhere here. Guaranteed to work.

da

the magnet trick worked for me as well on my 6S+

da

Thanks.

Even just holding a magnet behind the backfacing camera (against the screen ) for a second fixes the problem of the shaking. The picture stays still after removing the magnet.

My analysis is that the top speaker is interfering with the camera. I think a part of the camera freezes in the starting position due to magnetic force.

Bring another magnet nearby changes the the camera part to unfreez3 and function normally.

When it is in the restposition foR a while if freezes up again

da

This worked for me too - I bought a tiny (4.75mm x 1.6mm) neodymium magnet expecting to have to tape it permanently to the front top right corner, but just bringing it near once seems to have fixed it.

Here is something interesting. After I updated to IOS10.3.3, this issue happened.

Same thing happened to me when I updated IOS, but to iOS 11 beta. I pretty sure it’s the optical image stabilizer because when I use 3rd party apps the camera is fine.

da

Just try a third party app and turns out the problem cannot be solved

da

Called Apple they are acting like they’ve never heard of this problem on the 6s+. They replaced the camera and still shaking, said I need to pay $300+ to fix it. Clearly I’m not the only one my phone also started after ios11 and the magnet on the front fixes it. So it will remain taped on. Apple needs to admit they have a problem and fix them for free

da

Same problem here. But I never updated the iOS cause I don't have enough memory.

Does Anyone have a solution to this problem?

da

The minute I started updating due to the constant nagging for an update meant for IPHONE X, but forced to put on IPHONE 6 = the camera started wavering too. .Seems like APPLE is trying to tell us something maybe? Like a buy a new camera already and keep us happy? Dunno for sure.

For $15 just replace the camera. It fixed the issue.

Thank you for the $15 most helpful explanation

da

It didn’t fix mine. We installed 2 different rear facing cameras, (new of course) and instead of shaking they were just black! We watched the instruction video several times before removing the old camera and followed directions to the tee, but nothing but black! We removed it and tried again but once again it showed just black. We returned it and ordered another new camera from a different vendor (both vendors had high ratios and both cameras were OEM) but the exact same thing happened! Each time, when we removed the new camera and put the original camera back in, it would go back to shacking and blurriness! Bizarre!

da

It could possibly be that you hit the sensor of the camera while replacing it

da

Apple told me it would cost $100 to replace the camera....AND 6s+ is NOT covered under the 6+ free fix program..

I fixed it by replacing the rear module.

I think some go bad from being defective and others from dropping the phone. Basically the tiny magnesium wire that is attached to the motor breaks and the shaking effect occurs.

How much did that cost? You said you replace the rear module - how much did that cost?

da

$45-$60 for the module. It's expensive for the 6s plus and higher plus models.

da

The camera module is not faulty, the lens has just got detached from the module body. Just stick it back and it will be fixed.

From a phone technicians perspective the answer why it shakes is this:

There is a metal shield that sits over the camera with two screws in diagonal corners. this also acts as a EMI shield however there is an issue with the grounding of your phone and causes the camera to shake due to an interference. When this shield is on it, it causes an electrical current to touch the metal camera housing due to inproper grounding. The best method is to completely disassemble and find the culprit that isn’t grounding your phone properly.

Otherwise removing this shield and securing with some thick tape so the camera doesnt move around is the best economical/DIY option. Keep in mind two screws will have to be removed which very slightly aid reception signals.

Attaching a magnet (especially inside) could severely affect the device and cause a myriad of issues such as poor reception, wifi, bluetooth, lcd warping etc

After trying some suggested solutions including a magnet and tapping the reverse of the phone (both of which worked but only for a few minutes), I visited the Apple Retail Shop at Reading this week. After a diagnostic check which fully passed (although indicated battery operating at 77%), I was advised by the Genius Technician that the problem with the shaking camera was the result of ‘loss of stability ‘ of the camera. The only solution offered was to replace the camera which I finally agreed to (the alternative was to upgrade to a new phone!). The cost was £59.

To me it seems this is a design failure and it is disappointing that Apple does not accept any responsibility for this failure. I should add that they only provide a 90 day warranty on the new camera!!! Maybe it’s time to leave Apple after a decade plus of loyalty, which is clearly not mutual.

da

really fixed my issue. thanks

I had this issue with my 6S+ as well. I had AppleCare, but my warranty was expired by a few days. Apple employee told me that the 6S was not part of the eligible program affecting the iPhone 6. They offered to replace my camera anyway, and now my phone works fine.

P.S. - My phone is jail broken so I originally had concerns it might be software related, but it definitely appears to be hardware. Removed my jailbreak and restored my phone before taking it in. They did not update my phone or ask about jailbreak. Hope that helps anyone interested...

I downloaded a third party camera app and it works fine. The one I downloaded is called MuseCam. That makes me believe the issue is somehow software related rather hardware. My lens is shaking so hard when using the original Apple camera app that I can here the shaking noise. Like if there is a fly caught inside the phone! Looking at the lense closer also reveals how violently it is shaking.

Anyways, from now on I will use that third party camera app.

Material:iPhone 6S+. 128Gb. iOS 11.3.1.

Apple iphone had been becoming worst nightmares for me. My 6s+ camera shaking, it had rebooted several times for upgrade and after upgrade this camera issue started. Also on iphone 7, it seems a loop back diesese or something that is causing the speaker grayed out and is accepted as a known issue from Apple but they said they would not replace.Still had not been able to find a solution . I hate to be an iphone user

I had a client come in yesterday and had the shaking camera. Upon closer inspection of the functions of the phone, I found the compass wasn't reading correctly. I used a magnet as suggested by @Gibbz Arcilla and it fixed the shaking camera and the compass. I believe it is a board level problem. The customer did use the magnet for the future so I was unable to diagnose the actual problem. Side note the phone was ripped apart when I received it so it could be anything. As soon as you reboot the phone or close the application the problems come back. So my customer is going to tape it to the glass.

But I don’t have a magnet

da

@raelenmarshall Try salvaging a magnet from an old speaker, fridge magnet, even an old phone take out the ear speaker or loudspeaker and take the magnet from there. You can even break it apart so that you have a small piece. Almost any size magnet will work.

I even went as far as installing the piece of the magnet into the housing of the back camera bracket it stayed there until the customer had enough money to replace it with a new one.

In My previous comment, I said it may be a board problem is false I believe it either goes out on its own or it gets touched by another high powered magnet and messes with the image stabilization.

I want to share really interesting detail about shaking camera view. Tried everything “magnet trick, tapping camera trick or 3rd party camera software” and none of them worked. For long time i was dealing with my phone’ faulty battery and i use external battery pack frequently. Today while phone was plugged to external battery; used camera and shaking camera view was gone. When you think about coincidence, it makes sense. If battery doesn’t supply proper voltage for camera and screen, fluctuation on screen may happen. I think apple wants to hide it from users because they just ended their iphone 6 battery replacement on december 2018. And as i understand this issue covers multiple models; “iphone 6, 6plus, 7,7plus, and even newer models”

Fixed it without replacing the camera!!!

I have been having the rear camera shaking problem for more than 2 months, as I was not using it. One day I required it desperately and did not work. That is when I sat on it to fix it. After I opened the Iphone 6S plus and removed the camera module. If you notice the lens inside has been detached and shakes from it place. That is the reason of the problem. So what I did was, stuck the lens to the lens body(not the iphone body) with some hot glue. You can also use other glues which will help to keep the camera in place without moving. Ola!!! It is fixed.

P.S. : Please be careful while removing the connectors as you may damage the touch or screen cable.
