Laptop will not charge?

So I bought a MacBook air from someone with intent on fixing it. I get home to charge it and it doesn't( that i knew already) so i started trouble shooting and i figured that it was the battery so i bought replacement and that didn't solve the problem! I can get it to charge but only if I unplug the battery and plug up the ac adapter wait for the computer to start booting and then plug up the battery!? and this method works on both batteries old and new. What is the issue I've never seen this before?!!!

What light is the charger when the battery is connected, dim green?

I can only get a light while the battery is unplugged; its a bright green and then it turns orange after i plug up the battery. i can't get a charge light no other way

That's strange. Check the whole board for liquid damage and check the charging IC for any burnt pins too. It is able to communicate with the battery clearly, so its a bit of a weird one.

Thank you I'll give that a try! My Coworker is selling me her 2014 air for cheep because of water damage so I'll salvage those parts and hopefully the I/O board is good and I'll swap those to see if thats the issue! I really appreciate your help!

I had this model in yesterday with the same issue. I replace the I/O board and fixed it: MacBook Air 13" Mid 2012 I/O Board Replacement
