Xbox one S sizzling power noise

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a new Xbox one s and I realized, that when the machine is turned off, it has a sizzling noise probably from the internal adapter. I have tried with different cable and different sockets and still the same. I took it back to the shop where I bought it and we could not hear anything as the shop is noisy and the noise from the xbox is quite low, but am still worried there will be some problem with it. The guy told me I have to try to connect the xbox to an extension cable, rather than to socket. I just got home and tried, but still the same noise. Does anyone know what the problem is or any solution for that?

Thanks for the answers

My Xbox one s after a storm cam by it won’t turn on after that I took it to a repair shop and they said it reúnes on fine and they fixed the HDMI port but as I take it home it turns on makes a noise then turns off, also when I plug in the power cord the thing the goes into the back of the Xbox is making a weird noise it either sounds like electricity or something else I don’t know, but I need an answer or I’ll just by a new one

The noise is normal, but if you want to get rid of it try changing your xbox power setting from energy saver to standby mode.

@berko88 , David, Do you have a friend or know somebody with the same Xbox one s, hopefully you do and can check their machine. If their machine makes the same noise then you can probably consider it normal. If second machine does not make the noise then may not be normal and could be defective, in which case return for exchange, refund or repair. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Hi. Thanks for your answer. I did ask my friend who has the exactly same machine and he told me there is no noise at all when he turns off the console.

@berko88 , David, It is a new machine. Like I said actually go visit your friend and check it out your self. If his is not making the noise why should you accept a possibly defective machine! Check how friends is hooked up and if you have same hook up, if not same hook up try his install on yours and if noise is present, I would return it for replacement. It is a new machine! Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Hello, I have been asked this problem. So far as I know it's just a small defect that won't cause any further damage. You don't need to worry your Xbox is fine.

I hope this helped

Ok. Thanks. I was about going to send back to Microsoft. One guy suggested me to try surge protector. I will do that. My only solution for now is always plug off from the socket. So it won't cause any harm for sure.

Yeah, you have no problem. Hope I helped. ;)

There is no problem to begin with. That's just the hard drive periodically starts up and updates data. Xbox one is never truly "off" unless you select "full shutdown" in the settings app or pull power altogether. Read the instruction on the support page first.

Hi, I selected full shut down and I am completely sure it is not the hard drive, as it comes from the back, where the power cable goes into the console and it is not periodically.

Then I guess it's inductor whine in the standby power circuit. If there are sparks and real sizzling, the console would be burned up by now, so it's just a slight annoyance.

And in the future it won't cause any damage? For now I always plug off the console from the socket when I am not using. One guy suggested me to use surge protector. I will try that. Thanks for your answer

It's just a noise problem. Some PC boards whine all day and works reliably for years.

Two things...

1st be careful with surge protectors. Microsoft always go on about how that damages the machine because the psu has surge protection so you basically slowly kill it apparently. I’m on Xbox number 2 now lol

2nd I have a one s. It makes a lil hiss but ONLY when in instant on mode. If your Xbox is set to that it WILL make noise as it’s still operational to a degree. Might be why your friends one doesn’t. His might be in energy saving mode hence no noise cause it’s off.

If yours is in instant on try putting it to energy saving mode and see if it still does it.

Hope this helps man :)
