How to download pictures after that the phone get wet?

Hi,

I already apologize for my english, I'am not a native speaker.

Does anyone have an idea about how to get the pictures after that the Xperia Z3 compact get drowned? Basically the phone don't respond at all, it's dead. I don't care if the method doesn't repare it, my first goal is to get back the pictures. They are stocked on the internal memory. Any ideas ?

Thanks a lot

Martin

First is to disconnect the power supply/battery. If it is not easily removable you will have to take apart the phone. This also helps to dry the phone and its parts. I prefer to already when I dry it to open the phone with one of our guides here on ifixit, to fasten the drying process.

Here is a guide from ifixit

To see if you can still see liquid somewhere. Or if the liquid has caused any corrosion which has to be removed. Best done with a scratch brush like this one

Then I would connect the phone with the PC through a USB cable and try to turn it on to see it if it is recognized.

@bearl ifixit has gone away from considering rice a tool. Check on here as well as on here. we are trying to put an end to that myth once and for all. Your answer is valid with the exception of the rice part. No self respecting tech on here will recommend rice. Always clean the device appropriately. Either using an ultrasonic cleaner or use a high grade isopropyl alcohol.

Hi @bearl ,

Not trying to rub it in but it is also a good idea to remove (disconnect) the power source as soon as possible, if possible, to prevent further damage to components caused by unwanted circuit paths caused by the water.

@bearl you are definitely getting there ;-) much better. The only other thing you want to change is the waiting for a few days. Bad idea since corrosion starts immediately. Best is to remove the battery as soon as possible just like @jayeff already mentioned, and to open the device as quickly as possible to clean it. While my colleague @jayeff placed a link for a general guide, I usually refer people to this guide Riparazione danno da liquidi iPhone since it does show that it is ok to soak the boards etc. It just relates better, but that is just my opinion. Both guides are really good. Do not forget to advice people that they must remove the EMI shields. On some devices those shields cover more than 75% of the board. You cannot clean it properly without removing those.
