Domanda Chiusa

Upgrade to Snow Leopard from Tiger do I really need ILife boxset?

So my girlfriend has purchased a new IPod nano and missed the requirement of Itunes 10. Both MacBook Pros, I have the A1226 and she has the A1211 and we are both still running on Tiger (10.4.11) and Itunes 10 requires Leopard (10.5), since Snow Leopard is the only upgrade available and the Mac Store suggests we get the box set including ILife and IWork upgrades. My question is do we need to really spend the extra $100 for these upgrades or would we be ok with just the Snow Leopard upgrade disk. Also how does the software know if it has been installed on a single mac or multiple macs, do I really need the family pack if I am going to put it on both macs?

The IWork would never be used(we both use Microsoft Office for the mac), and ILife upgrade isn't a priority. The most important part is allowing the IPod Nano to be used.

Thanks

To answer your question Snow Leopard full version or upgrade doesn't know if you've installed on one computer or a hundred. There's no activation number like MicroSoft. I would do this with the $29 upgrade disk. Some say it will install the system directly without the 10.5 present, I have not done this myself. There are 10.5 upgrade disks for less than the full install versions. I know as I have a couple. It's just a matter of finding them. Do the 10.5 and then the 10.6.

My suggestion would be to buy a copy of Snow Leopard and try it on one computer. I have heard mixed reviews on updating directly and believe it can be done. Back up your data however as I understand that when going from 10.4 to 10.6 it erases the drive.

You do not need

'''the iWork and iLife upgrades.

You said you'd not use iWork and if you don't need/use new revs of iPhoto, iDVD, Garage Band then you don't need them. The iTunes upgrade will come through System Updates I have recieved iTunes 10 through software update, but not the new versions of iPhoto, iDVD and Garage Band.
