Moto X Play Display replacement issue

I went to replace the broken display of my Moto X Play, but none of the displays that the local repair shop had seemed to work. All of those remained black after properly connecting even though the phone was charged. Can anyone help me with what the issue might be? (the broken display works perfectly fine though)
