If you watch the demo's you'll see the bar is independent of the Touch ID sensor. So its safe to assume there are using different materials. The Touch ID is clearly sapphire, the bar is likely Gorilla glass or something similar.

When the IFIXIT teardown team gets one you'll need to post the question to them.
