Turn old MacBook Air A1466 into external monitor, build

Hello. I recently watched this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfirQC99...), and got inspired to try it myself with my old Macbook Air 13" A1466.

However, in the video, you have to use a controlboard for the computer. I can't seem to find one, with either HDMI or Thunberbolt, that will work with the Macbook Air.

Any suggestions as to what to do, or where to find a controlboard?

Cheers.

@lawrenceofara aside from the video what is your plan? You need a controller for the computer or for the panel? what make and model is your panel?

Just for clarification (there are 9 A1466 machines) please pick yours:

Forgive my ignorance. I have a MacBook Air "Core i5" 1.8 13" (Mid-2012) 1.8 GHz Core i5 (I5-3427U).

The idea is, as in the video, to cut the computer and remove the screen. The computer itself is very unreliable, as it has comprehensive waterdamage, so many parts aren't functioning fully, apart from the screen itself.

So I thought it would make a neat project to turn the screen into an external monitor, either through thunderbolt or HDMI.

I'm unsure as to what the panelnumber is, as I haven't opened the computer yet.

Thank you for the rapid answers.

Okay, got it. You wil need to number right off the panel. The problemn is going to be that Apple panels use a different setup and not every panel can be used for that.

Got it. Cost $33.34 Get the number from the back of the screen. Do an eBay search for:

LCD Controller Driver Board Kit for (insert your number)

Here's an example:

NT68676(HDMI+DVI+VGA)LCD Controller Driver Board Kit for LP154WP4-TLA1 1440X900

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NT68676-HDMI-DVI...

Doing a 24" iMac

I just ordered a Driver Board for a 2007 24" iMac cost $31.59 for the controller board:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-DVI-VGA-LCD...

The problem with this one is that i also need a power supply to drive it for $35

5V/12V/24V Universal LCD/LED Power Supply Power Board for LCD TV 24"26"32"

http://www.ebay.com/itm/122481968571

Now I'll have a great looking monitor in an iMac stand. Great novelty item. Total cost $66.59

I may post a guide on it, if there is any interest.

Problem, I can buy a brand new 24" HDMI TV on eBay for $80 but it won't have the class the iMac will. But could I have put the TV in the iMac case?

I'm considering turning my old Macbook Pro 2012 laptop screen into an external portable monitor for work at home as I'm on a budget.

How was your experience making the monitor and getting the parts?

I also watched the same Youtube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfirQC99...) but it's for a Window's laptop - how did you open up the laptop monitor for your Macbook?

I'd love to know any tips or guidance you could share with me about it.
