The only thing that I can think of that would make a battery hot is if the leads were tied together or the battery had been damaged. I would get a digital multimeter and test the battery leads to ensure that the hot lead is not grounded out. The easiest way to tell is if you choose the beep setting on the multimeter and contact the hot and ground leads on the battery, you should not hear any beep, and of course, if you do, then the battery is shorted out and is heating up due to it trying to energize itself. If you do not get a beep, then change to the 20V setting and measure the voltage through the battery (should be ~3.7V) and if you do not get anything then the battery could be damaged. Look at the small circuit board at the top of the battery or at the casing itself for cuts or burns. If all of this fails then the most likely solution is that the board is faulty and is shorting out the battery, and this you will see, if upon connecting the battery to the circuit board, you will get a beep from the multimeter upon testing the soldered connections.
