It could be because your charger is defective, the prongs inside of your tablet could be breaking off, there could be some water damage, the screen could be broken so it would appear the tablet isn't charging or the battery might be damaged from you or some one dropping the device.

Has it been dropped in water?
Look inside the charging port, do any of the pins or the little tab in the middle seem bent?
Have you tried checking the cable/ charger? Try using the charger with a different device, or try connecting your device to your computer.
How long does your battery typically last? Have you noticed a sudden decrease in capacity?
