Can't install OS, don't have another Mac.

Hello,

I recently fixed a iMac and I really want to use it. But, I don't have a copy of Mac OS X. How can I install the OS? The only computer I have is a PC running Windows 10. Also this iMac doesn't support internet recovery. Also again the hdd is wiped blank.

---update---

I have a copy of the lion installer. Can I create a cd with that?

You're stuck in a catch22 situation here ;-{

You need to have a system running under OS-X to prep the HD and install the OS. Which is why you need a friend with a Mac. Once you can access a Mac you can then create a bootable USB thumb drive to take home to then install the OS from as it will be your boot drive to then install the OS (the OS installer) onto your internal drive.

Think of it this way: How does the Olympic caldron get lit? It needs the runner with the torch to light it. As it can't light its self.

Good point. Thank you! Guess I have to find someone with a Mac now! :P

Sorry guy, Round peg square hole here ;-{

You'll need to find a friend with a Mac or visit an Apple store. Bring a 16 GB flash drive. You'll need to use the Mac's Disk Utility to first delete the FAT32 partition and reformat with GUID partition map and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition. Once done follow this: How to make a bootable OS X 10.11 El Capitan installer drive.

Once the drive is bootable copy to it the OS installer so you can then install the OS onto your system at home.

Don't forget to bring a nice bottle of Wine or a six pack of Beer for your friend!

You can order a copy of Snow Leopard directly from Apple. I had this same issue and was able to install from there and upgrade via the operating systems built in updater. The disk cost me $20USD

I think this Mac has the biggest verity of os'es, it supports 10.5 to 10.12 (with a little hacking)

You can also use the old discs it came with (usually gray) in the owner's package. Sure it will be an old version, but sometimes that's more useful than having the latest version. I have old music gear that newer versions of OSX do not work with.
