Wash Cycle will not start with door shut and wash cycle selected

I have a Kenmore Elite 4ET Smart Washer with the Quiet Pack. The door latch assembly on the machine was replaced a few months ago and it has been work fine ever since. The other day the latch on the door broke. I replaced it with no problem but know I can’t get a wash cycle to start. The entire control panel buttons light up as they normally do when I select a wash. My process – close the door, select the wash cycle then push the Select button. However, nothing happens when I press the Select button. The door is completely closed. I did not hear the locking sound and the wash cycle does not start. I’ve read some of the other blog posts and I tried removing the top and resetting the pink wires. Nada. Same result with unplugging the machine for thirty minutes to let it reset. No success there. I also tried a diagnostic test by pushing certain buttons on the control panel but nothing happened. It could definitely be user error in that situation.

Does anyone have any ideas they can throw my way? Would really like to resolve this issue on my own without scheduling an expensive service call.

Thanks in advance.

Unusual that the door lock breaks twice. First unplug the machine for five minutes to allow it to reset. See if the door is locked. Did you get a new lock or a used part?

Are you kicking or slamming the door shut?

The washer door lock assembly installed a few months ago was purchased new and was installed by an appliance repairman. The part I had to replace this time was the washer door strike. When I shut the door, it appears to be locked. I have to use a little bit force to shut the door because the door is a little off balance but it has been that way since the door lock assembly was replaced. I have had to use a little force since replacing the part but it has not prevented the washer from working.

I have unplugged the machine several times to let it reset. Each time it has been longer than 5 minutes.

Everything appears to be working as normal up to the point I press the Select button to start the wash cycle. When I do that nothing happens. I do not get the “locking sound” and I have to press the Cancel button to clear out the selected wash cycle.

I appreciate your input Mayer. I'm a DYI newbie at this so it's trial by fire for me on repairing the washer.

Rick, recheck your switch connections and any other wires that may have come loose, damaged, etc., have new switch tested may be faulty. Trouble shooting link below may help. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Thanks for the info and the link. I checked my switch connections and other connections. I unplugged the switch connections several times then reset them. No luck. I did the same with other connections with the same results.

Everything appears to be working as normal up to the point I press the Select button to start the wash cycle. When I do that nothing happens. I do not get the “locking sound” and I have to press the Cancel button to clear out the selected wash cycle.

How would I test the switch and by “switch” are you referring to the door lock assembly?

The attached 2 links may be of some help, It states, To determine if the door lock has failed electrically, consult your washer’s wiring diagram and use a multimeter to test each of the door lock switches for continuity. in the same link there is related videos which show testing of washer door lockswitch.
