Beeping then White Screen then Black Screen

Hello,

My friend was cleaning his house and he decided to pass his MacBook Air (A1237) to me as it wasn't working for a while now and he did not intend to repair it.

First of all light on MagSafe didn't light up after connecting so I tought that maybe the whole issue was just with the charger. I've soldered some cables and it was as good as new.

After connecting now working charger to the Macbook I've heard beeping noise - didn't know what it meant back then so I've turned it off. After some research I tought that it's probably faulty RAM.

I've tried to turn it on day after to hear the beeping again but to my suprise the screen lit up all white and I could hear chime so I tought that maybe there is problem with the logic board/screen connection. At this point I've tried reseting and using command+option+P+R - there was some mechanical-like noise and the screen did not light up this time.

Right now I don't hear chime no more, screen is black but the computer seems to be at least partially working as its getting pretty warm after a while, on-LED is glowing white and the fan is working.

I've tried cleaning the internals with air and replacing thermal paste, but it didn't bring any change. I'm thinking about hooking it up to some external screen, but micro-DVI adapter currently seems to be extremely hard to get hands on.

I know the effort probably won't be worth it, but do any of you have any advices on what route I should take now? Thanks is advance.

I asked my friend and he said that he had a problem booting the device in the past and this MacBook was serviced once before. He couldn't tell me anything about the problem beyond "it just wouldn't boot". Also he told me that it did not have adventures with water/any liquid, but he dropped it a couple of times.

I tired to reconnect the data display cable and when I tried to boot afterwards something weird happen. There was white screen again and I could hear startup sound every 2 seconds. After rebooting it went back to black screen.

First how many beeps did it give in a row? The RAM is built into the logic board.

Ask your friend if anything was spilled on it or if he can give you a history of any problems with the machine, Next hook it up to an external drive with a known good booting system:

Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.5.1 (9B2324) Maximum MacOS: X 10.7.5*

Disconnect the battery from the logic board and the mag-safe adapter, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds then hook it back up and see if it boots.

Try starting in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key on start up.

Zap The PRAM -

Resetting NVRAM

Shut down your Mac.

Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.

Turn on your Mac.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.

Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.

Thank you for your answer.

I don't know how many beeps there were, because they spooked me into turning the Mac off almost instantly. When I read that there are different signals and tried to turn it on to listen again the beeps were there no more - only white screen.

Edit: The screen isn't working atm. Also I can't hear "booting sound" so reseting those things would be hard. But as I said above I've had a chance to try it.

I've tired to disconnect battery and mag-safe method as you asked, but it did not work.

I don't fully understand the part about "exernal drive" - do you mean like bootable USB? I'm pretty new to macs.

Also I have updated my post above.

next paragraph is not relevant anymore

Also I found someone auctioning this MacBook without SSD, battery and charger with a "one broken connection visible on picture", but I couldn't figure out what's broken and If I could still use it. Here are pics from the auction:

I figured that there is broken hard drive port on logic board (on this auction, not mine) so I probably couldn't use it.
