Volume Button not working/clicking, please help!

Hi!

I am not asking for a reapir guide or anything like that.

Just a simple question, wether I need to replace my volume control ribbons and cables, or just the physical volume buttons and spacers please.

So basically, I woke up and when I pressed the volume up button it didn't work. It also felt different to the volume down button. It didn't maje the usual clicking sound, and it felt like it was pushed inside flat with the body. It was unpressable and it didn't bounce back out when pressed.

Any help would be great please :) I will try to fix this on my own, but I just need to know what to buy, either the ribbons or just the volume buttons + spacers.

Thank you so much!

Before you buy and parts, I would recommend opening the phone and taking a look to see if the screws have become loose in that area. If so, it would be wise to remove the battery before attempting to tighten them back to prevent puncturing the battery.

There really isn't much this could be. Its either the volume switch itself, which would only break with physical damage to that part of the phone, or the volume flex. I can't say I have ever seen a volume switch go bad. I honestly don't know if its possible for one to go bad. I have however, seen countless volume flexes go bad. The actual "click" part is built into that flex. The switch just presses down on that part of the cable. It would make sense that there are a set number of clicks in that thing's lifetime. You probably ran out of clicks.

The ifixit guide is great for this repair. Keep track of what screws you took out of what spot and its a pretty straight forward job. Just be patient and don't rush.

Sometimes the screws can come loose on the bracket which holds the flex cables in place.

If these are tight, and the flex cable is secured in its original place, then you may need a new cable.

Is the phone second hand, or have you owned it since new?
