My iPhone 6 turned blank out of nowhere and now all I see is a black lit up screen. When I plug it into iTunes, it shows error 40 as I restore. The Apple logo and the bar shows when I restore but then error 40 shows up and I'm now stuck. I don't understand what is happening. Do I need to change my LCD display? Please help me.

That Error number belongs to a list of Hardware Related issues. from what ive seen when this error occures there is a issue with the memory (storage) chip. your best bet is to contact apple as this is something that would fall under a manufactures warranty. Calling apple may only be helpful if you purchased your phone within the last year, but it doesn't hurt to try if its no longer in warranty.

I gave in my iPhone to T-Mobile. It still had a warranty and I was able to get another one. Calling Apple never helps, from experience. They'll always tell me to buy a new phone. I went there before to fix my iPhone 5S's battery, after it started growing, and they told me to buy a new one
Glad to hear you received a replacement. If you are near a apple store you can always show up in person if you have any issues with your apple products.
Iphone shops are waste of time. Mine is one year old & just because it's 2 weeks over there's no guarantee. They told me they will send to iPhones but I must pay R6.500 & they will give me another & still have to pay my one year contract. My fone is new , hardly used because I have another 3 year old Iphone which works perfectly.sent it to iPhone technition & he said its error 40

Try retore under DFU mode. Please note that this is not the same as recovery mode restore or upgrade.

I fixed this issue by using a heat gun and holding over the hard drive till I saw the flux boil, then restored it and it works just fine now

Tried that, the apple logo showed up and it didn't restore. I got the same error 40. Also thanks for taking the time to answer :)
iPhones don't have hard drives. Also, consumers don't understand the delicacies of doing a "fix" like this, so I suggest a clarification so people can benefit from your post.
it is a nand flash ic
unfortunately the problem before is apple logo automatic SHUTDOWN
I also worked with a hot gun on the nand flash

bro this error is because of out dated flash file download a latest file and then flash error 3194 will not come thanks
@Rizwan Yaqub, I have this problem for 3 days now, can't sleep, can't ear, just cry.
I took your advices and put new Adobe Flash file download but what to do now? I have to copy adobe flash to iphone 3gs hard drive and then put in the restore?

i also have this issue, tried 3 usb cables, 2 different computers (mac and win) stuck on restore apple logo, then error 40

I have fixed this issue before and the problem is for HDD IC. It has to be replaced. Please text me if anyone want to fix this issue.
