Logic board replacement? Help!

Hi there

Can I replace the logic board with a newer model? 2014 vs 2015 vs 2016 (if any) model?

I got a 2013 Apple MacBook Air 11"/1,3/8GB which logic board was damaged due to wine splash on it. Logicboard was damaged so its cheaper to get a new one rather than repairing it.

Will it be possible if I would swap it out to a faster one? Does any one know if newer models are compatible with each other? I was thinking if possible the 2014 or 2015 board. I want to make the Macbook "workable" again but I was hoping to "upgrade" it if possible. That way I would technically have a newer and faster mac...

Appreciate the help please. Thanks.

Unfortunately, Apple likes to change just enough during each model year to make it impossible to have everything working if you swap the board with the board of a computer other than the same model. Have you tried having the board water cleaned? Also, especially on MacBook Airs from what I've seen, the keyboard is most likely the issue you're having, not the board itself. Since the power button is built into the keyboard, once the keyboard goes, you usually aren't able to power it on anymore.

My suggestion is to try to have the board water cleaned and have the keyboard tested to ensure that's not the problem. But if you're looking to upgrade computers, you may want to just bite the bullet and buy a new one. Hope this helps!

i have already cleaned it and had it cleaned even from a pro. he also was kind enough to take a look and was surprised i did everything so well... he basically did the things i did and just "rechecked". thankfully he didnt charge much. the isse is the ssd connector and some key elements damaged. so repair is expensive. thats why either replace the board. i was thinking to upgrade to a newer board. it seems to be the same fitting that is why i was hoping it would work...

Unfortunately no, you will need the exact model year logic board for your system, which can be found Here.

And any insight onto why it is not compatible? I thought they are the exact same sizing etc.?

Just checked this post again, I referenced the wrong machine in my check. It does appear that the boards for the macbook air did not change drastically. It is possible that the board would fit, although there is no guarantee that peripheral connectors would. It could work, but I would be careful and make sure to choose a model board for the same spec in a later generation if you wish to attempt this.
