MacBook not charging, magsafe stays green, slight buzzing from port.

Hey, everyone.

My Macbook 15" it stopped charging at all last week, but the charger's light stays green.

Before the issue started, it was blinking green, but now stays solid. The Macbook won't work even when plugged in, leading me to believe that it was a problem with the port, which looked worn out and even damaged (ground on one side blackened and melted). I thought that replacing the port might do the trick, so I did ordering from iFixit and following the correct tutorial, but I'm continuing to have the same issue.

I also now hear a faint buzzing sound from the magsafe/port while it is plugged in.

Sorry, Dan! I've never posted on here and I guess it shows. Here's what I came up with

MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.6 15" Mid-2012 2.6 GHz Core i7 (I7-3720QM)

  • RAM 8 GB
  • Storage 750 GB

Update (08/02/2016

Hey everyone, I dropped it off today to get diagnostics done on it and was told that the logic board on it is fried. Thank you everyone for your help!

First you should visit this site: EveryMac plug in your serial number it will tell you what your model is. To find your serial number you can find it in the 'About This Mac or on the bottom of your system.

We really need to have an idea what series (model) you have to help you (A1286 covers more than one model).

Just so we're on the same page here you followed this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2012 MagSafe DC-In Board Replacement and used this part: MacBook Pro Unibody 13" and 15" MagSafe DC-In Board Correct?

For now don't use the power adapter!

What is the status of your MagSafe charger's cord? Is it damaged in any way? If it is you'll need to replace the adapter as that likely damaged your DC-In board and it could have also damaged your systems logic board.

Pressing on the Battery checker button on the left side are you able to see any LED's If not you'll likely need a new battery as well here.

I would visit an Apple Store and have them service the system as this might be covered under warranty depending on when you bought your system if the MagSafe charger cord is not damaged.

Yeah, those are both the ones I used. I was afraid that maybe the battery/logic board might have been damaged. The battery checker light does not turn on. I don't believe the cord is damaged so I think I will just have to take it to an Apple store. Thanks for your help!

Before making the switch, I tried 3 different chargers and got the same result, but I will try a different one today after the switch from yesterday that might help.

Tried a different charger, no dice

What about when you click the battery charge indicator button on the side with no battery?

da

Do you mean "No Battery" as in no charge, or without the battery plugged in at all?

da

Without the battery plugged in at all
