cannot hear sound after upgrading to dual HD SSD

Hi everyone,

I just finished upgrading my iMac 27" mid 2011 to Dual Hard Drive with a crucial SSD drive.

After booting the iMac up, I cannot seem to have any sound device anymore:

In preferences it says "the selected device has no output controls"

the Volume icon on the top-left corner is greyed out

at start-up I can hear the usual "Gong" sound, so the speakers are connected

I already tried both SMC and NVRAM reset without success

I am inclined toped it up again, but I would like to know what I should be looking for. Did I miss some connector? Which I should be check, more than others?

thanks to everyone for reading so far, and hope you can help me out

Soluzione Prescelta

I re-opened the iMac and I found out that the culprit is the I/O connector on the step 19, which might seem connected when it's actually barely leaning into the socket.

Apply a little force to assure you've reinserted it all the way in and you're gold.

As a matter of fact, all the connectors in the interested area have different sizes and shapes, so there's really no chance you've inverted some. I.e., the two speakers connector have respectively two and three pins, so you won't end up hearing left from right and right from left. That's really a good design :-)

P.S. It might help also perform NVRAM and SMC reset, after rebooting the iMac
