Which cable (1,2,3) has something to do with the backlight?

Hey all,

unfortunately i dropped my iphone 3g when i picked it up yesterday. Since then the backlight does not work. Everything works fine and under a strong light i see things on the screen, but there is no backlight. I opened the device and looked for the cables. My Problem is, that i only got 2 connection cables inside not 3 as normal?! They are marked with 1, 2 and 3 on pictures on the internet – there is no cable with number “1” in my device… or I’m just blind and confused.

So just one little question at first:

Could cable “1” (upper right corner) has something to do with the backlight? If not I can just forget that and replace the LCD.

Please ask if you did not understand something. English is not my first language, so I surely made a few mistakes.

Thank you for every answer.

Chris

no 1 is for LCD. If this is missing after a drop I'd start looking for it inside the LCD flex. If it isn't there then you can buy one on ebay cheaply enough. It can be resoldered back to the mainboard, either by yourself if you have the tools and confidence, or by many of the companies advertising this service on the net. The backlight itself is actually controlled by a small part on ?the top left of the mainboard. try replacing the no1 connector and hopefully that will cure the problem.... the backlight is more expensive.Good luck.

I opened the device to look again...

As I see the cable of "1" is glued on the LCD case. If you close the case the cable fits perfect.

It's a bit strange...

But the LCD works fine - has no backlight but works normally. Could cable 1 anyway be the error source?

Thanks for your answers.

Connector 1 may be stuck to the back of the lcd/display part of the case, but it can be gently pried away from the back of the display. (Be Careful not to damage the ribbon!) Once it's away you can reconnect it (and the other cables) before you put the display back on the phone to ensure that it's solidly connected.
