Which machine does this go in? I may have it. There is a new one here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-In-Box-Apple...

I think this is a part for an MDD not the machine posted.

da

@itspos what have you checked, what machine does it belong to, what are your abilities?

da

This is for a powerMac G4, it shut off completely - no power. 1st: I replaced internal battery- nothing. Next,I tried resetting the PMU/cuda switch - nothing. 3rd tried removing battery and resetting PMU/cuda switch + power button, waiting then re-inserting 1/2 aa battery - nothing.

da

I have added hard drives and ram to computer but haven't gone much further than those ... but willing. Spent all morning trying to read about how to ground myself before attempting to remove power supply. Still reading

@itspos check the fuse. Most common failure on these PSU's are

-mains cap shorted

-bridge rectifier shorted

-power MOSFETs shorted

So you do want to take it apart and post some high res images with your question. For that, use this guide

UPDATE 7/26/16

Looks like it is Apple part # 661-2816

Not sure if you had a chance to look at pictures of psu opened up.

sorry for delay, just unexpect family stuff ... any insight would be helpful.

Thanks!

da

@itspos no problem. Had some family crisis myself. Bad week for that. Anyhow is there any chance you can repost the images after you blow the dustt off the PSU and have the images in a larger format? Hard to see with these old eyes:-)

da

I can re-shoot after dusting, but not sure how to make cel photos any bigger at this time. I will shoot in sections as large as I can. It will take a few days.

If computer was working I could enlarge them.

With these older machines its usually best to source another machine for dirt cheap and swap parts between them. Otherwise eBay might have the poeer supply you are looking for.

These PPC G4 PSUs are so old now that even if you did find one on Ebay chances are it will be on its last legs anyway.

So a guide to refurbish a PSU would be awesome as so many g4s could be revived as the PSU is the most common fault.

I have 2 x 933 Quicksilvers that I use for a Pro Tools TDM rig but both have PSU issues now and G4 QS 344w PSUs are as rare as hens teeth.

Even if the guide was split into sections ie part one : replacing mains fuse
