Why doesn't my screen display anything?

I was using my iphone and then suddenly the screen went black, but the phone was still on (it vibrates). I tried resetting it and I took it to apple, but they want me to pay 300 to replace it. Then I asked a friend who repairs phones and he said that a certain chip is damaged that isn't allowing the screen to display anything. It would cost me 140 for him to replace the chip. I tried opening the phone up myself to see if everything is connected properly and it still doesn't work.

I'm not so familiar with the parts of an iphone but i'll try my best to explain what I think. I think that my friend who told me I have to replace the chip is wrong. I feel like I can just replace the screen and it will work, because the digitizer still works. I can swipe the screen and turn it off, but I can't see anything. I have to guess where the "slide to power off" option is, but it still works when I swipe the screen. Do you think it's worth trying to buy a new LCD and replacing it myself? Or should I just give it to my friend and pay the 140?

Hi, answering your question can be a bit difficult because there could be a multitude of things wrong or just something simple. First off the likelihood of it being a chip is very small and could really only be caused by two things: someone damaging the phone by taking it apart and water damage. If it "suddenly" went black from normal use then its probably just the connector is not fitted properly, which your friend or you should have noticed while taking it apart. So if it's properly connected and is still not working then it could be the lcd or backlight; my recommendation take it to an iPhone repair shop with reasonable quality service and ask them if they'll test a replacement screen on the phone. They probably will because if it turns out to be the screen they can sell you their services.

My iPhone screen also have went black, but not permanently, it works normally after i restart it.

But still, the screen continue to become black and turn off then turn on, repeat for several times a day.

At last, as i use a 16GB iPhone, so i thought that may the problem is caused by not enough storage. So i tried 'iMyfone Umate iPhone Cleaner to clear up my iPhone. I clear up all the junk files and temporary files, as well as many unnecessary files. Finally, my iPhone works well , and no black screen any more.
