Cannot access home-page settings

I rooted my tab and deleted some files I thought I recognised and didn't need. Now, having done a hard reset, although the tab works better in some respects, I cannot access 'settings' on the home page, so cannot, for example, link up to new WiFi provider. I really would appreciate some help!

Probably need to reflash the system firmware using Samsung Kies or downloaded firmware from Sammobile.com.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm not sure if doing a factory reset (which I have done) is the same as 'reflashing the system firmware'. I have reconnected to Kies on my desktop, but because the tab shows latest firmware is already installed, there is no option for reloading it from Kies. if I am missing the point somewhere, please explain. If I could reformat the tab, I guess I could then do a fresh install of the firmware, but I don't see an option for that either!

It's not possible als far als i remember to ref lash with the kies tool. You'll need a 3rd party tool like Odin for that. Next to that you'll need the proper firmware to flash.

Unfortunately, they are region specific, so it's tough finding the right one. For this you'll need the info from the currently installed firmware.

To Check your GT-P1000 tablet’s firmware just dial this code *#1234# in the type pad or Go to>Settings>About>Firmware info.

If you need further help (or maybe the above is enough for you), can you please paste the output of this code? Then we can help picking the right firmware.

Hi Joost,

Thanks for your suggestions. I did root my tab, and although I would have expected it to have been lost after a factory reset, 'Superuser' still shows on my apps list. The installed firmware versions are: PDA:JP9 / PHONE:JPZ / CSC:KP1 (CPW). How do I get the firmware onto my PC so that it is accessible to Odin? Thanks for your guidance.

Factory reset doesn't remove the rooted stuff u fortunately, it just removes a predefined set of user data, that's why a full reflashed is needed.

OK, using those identifiers, your firmware is the UK one, specifically the car phone warehouse version.

You can download this firmware from sammobile (they literally have all Samsung firmware in existence available for download). Then it's a few simple steps to get it reflashed:

Download the firmware (you will have to register unfortunately)

Then:

  1. Extract (unzip) the firmware file
  2. Download Odin v3.11.1
  3. Extract Odin ZIP file
  4. Open Odin v3.11.1
  5. Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
  6. Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
  7. Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
  8. Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
  9. Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes

Please let us know if you've succeeded or if there are any follow-up questions.
