MacBook A1502 Water damage

Hi guys,

I've been reading a lot and fixing macbook's and iphones with trial and error over the years.

So I now have a macbook A1502 with water damage.

Got the motherboard out, inspected it, cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol.

The mac boots up but shows the screen of empty battery.

The charger won't light up so I think the fault is in the DC board.

Am I right in thinking that if I buy a new DC board the laptop will perfectly fine

Well, I checked the DC board on its own (disattached from motherboard) and plugged the charger in, light of charger was not working. I carefully inspected the motherboard for oxidation and couldn't find any.

When I boot the macbook, the screen of empty battery pops up so that's a good sign. That's why I think it's inside the DC board. I don't think your answer was really helpful.

Thanks guys.

The water came in via the charger port and ports next too it.

My hopes are high because the mac still boots, that must be a good sign. So that leads me to the conclusion the fault must be in DC board or the route to the battery, or the battery itself.

I ordered a new (chinese) DC-board. Will see next week what it does.

Hey guys.

Got a new DC board in the post today. Macbook is working perfectly fine now. Guess I got very lucky. Battery is also charging. Keyboard was not working at first but ribbon cable was not propely connected so now it's working also. I thought for a second something was wrong with the wifi antenna but I did a speedtest and got good results.

Anyways, thanks for you time guys.

LOL - replacing a part on a water damaged machine and thinking it will "work perfectly fine", is fine if your name is Pollyanna. It's a possibility at best ;-)

UPDATE

I'm sorry I couldn't give you a better answer but water damaged machines can be anything and everything. Your battery has run all the way down and it appears it will not charge.

Here's what Apple says:

"If you see a battery icon appear on the screen instead of an Apple logo, it means the battery in your notebook Mac is too low to start up. Connect the power adapter to charge your Mac's battery, then try starting up again."

You can try a new DC-In board first and/or get a used battery so it will at least boot up and you can run diagnostics.

So far my luck with liquid damaged machines has been hit and miss. There are to many variables involved to give you a definitive fix. It's how much liquid, where it entered, how long it sat there, did it get to the logic board, is there corrosion on the board. If it entered from the keyboard you have a much better change it did not get to the logic board as the newer machines are much better protected on the underside of the keyboard. i have fixed them with just a keyboard replacement,

Hi arneblommaert3

Dc board is a part of complex circuit talks to each others and tells the charger to turn on and charge the mac. So if there is no light on the charger it means there is a problem in that circuit includes the dc board .Maybe its the dc board itself or one of the other component on the logic board .I would recommend to start inspecting from where to water contact has occurred .

Thanks .
