Pressure on case beside trackpad leads to cursor movement.

If I apply pressure to the case of my laptop to the right of the track pad (all the way the the edge of frame over optical drive) or below the track pad (closer to me than the track pad) the cursor is hijacked. Essentially, wherever the cursor was on the screen it then clicks due to the pressure on the case when the mouse button on the track pad was not depressed. This can be a pain when I'm typing, wrists resting on the case and I shift my weight and suddenly the cursor selects some a different location for my typing to show up. Is there a fix to this, a problem with the upper case or trackpad? And, are the parts available? Which parts would be necessary?

any battery swelling?

No battery swelling. I'm using a Fastmac battery because my original one finally died a year ago.

Just a thought - these machines suffer from a loosening USB controller which sits right underneath the trackpad. The issue has been discussed before, in the worst case it leads to complete failure of trackpad and keyboard. Both are wired internally via USB.

Maybe it's the (weird) beginning of the problem.

It's most likely your battery. Try taking out the battery, and using your computer plugged in.

You say that you're using a 3rd party battery, it may be just slightly off in design, and pushing up on your trackpad.

Another possibility is that your bottom case is slightly bent. If the center is slightly higher than the sides (frowning) it will cause this. You may need to do some 'manual adjusting' (bend it back into place). Do this with the battery out.

I had a similar problem where my button wouldn't click, and the case felt warped.

If I were to press the bottom case so it sat flat on the desk, the cursor would select areas of the screen like I was pressing and holding the trackpad's button and then moving the cursor.

It turns out that my battery had swollen up like a balloon in one spot. I almost had to pry it out of the case.

Now when I use the computer plugged in without a battery in place, the trackpad and button work just like I remember them.
