Failed trackpad and keyboard

Hi there!

Working with a MacBook Air 13" Mid 2012. Trackpad and keyboard failure arose after minor water damage (water likely entered from ventilation holes as keyboard was covered with silicon protector): everything except the power button malfunctioned.

Replaced the upper case cable and the problem was resolved until a week later, when the same failure recurred.

Any diagnosis and recommended repairs welcomed. Thanks!

Update: I've replaced the upper case cable a second time to verify that I've not received a faulty cable. This time, the repair did not resolve the problem, even temporarily.

Update: For no apparent reason, the trackpad and keyboard became functional again. I was in the middle of browsing a website on my bluetooth keyboard and trackpad when they suddenly became unresponsive and the built-in hardware kicked back into life. Very confused. Would appreciate additional diagnosis based on this development as I anticipate the hardware to fail again in the near future.

See how an external keyboard works, Examine the logic board of corrosion and try to determine the entry point. This sound like a keyboard entry despite the protection.

UPDATE 6/4/16

Here's where I originally ran into this issue and then the fix that worked for me:

Thanks for your attention and consideration. Both USB and bluetooth mice and keyboards have worked since the first moment of the initial malfunction. I'm not familiar with the full range of what corrosion looks like, but there's no sign of the kind of corrosion I've seen via a google image search on either the logic board or trackpad. If you have a moment to confirm, I've uploaded photos of these areas to http://imgur.com/a/XMv1t

I see no evidence of logic board corruption. However it does sound like your keyboard has failed. I've this kind of issue arise with liquid hitting the trackpad alone. Is that a possibility? What leads you to believe it ws water damaged?

The problem first arose immediately after some water dribbled onto the laptop (a minor spill). I thought it hit the top of the keyboard but it may well have seeped in through the trackpad as well. Would a failed keyboard be consistent with my experience of temporarily resolving the issue after replacing the upper case cable? Thanks

I need you to first make a Time Time Machine backup of your data, then I walk you through and show what I've done to fix it in the past.

Check to see that there is no corrosion on the connectors or the cable, also it could be that the area actually failed now that it got power after the water damage.
