TouchID sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't.

Hello,

I've read everything i could about touch ID, but i couldn't find a similar situation.

I have an Iphone 6.

I changed screen and I use old home button and ribbon.

At first i was able to complete touch id setup. All was good, but after 2 days, touch id stopped working.

I managed to get it working again by rebooting several times, soft reset.. But then again it stopped working.

When i did factory reset and tried to setup fresh again, "add fingerprint" was greyed and it said unable to complete touch id.

After many reboots, i got it functional again, but only for 1 day, then it's all over again...

Has anyone experienced the same thing??

Thanks in advance for your help.

It's very weird, but touch ID sometimes works, and suddenly stops working.

I have succeded to get it work again after several reboots, but once again it stopped working.

When i reboot it, I dont have the option to add fingerprint...

I tried factory reset, soft reset... When I do that the phone tells me it's unable to complete touch id setup.

Has someone experienced the same kind of failure?

Did you make sure the home button flex was seated all the way? It's the one farthest to the right.

Yes it is. I even cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol

I guess just check for any components that are missing or damaged next to the connectors, mostly the home button connector. If you can't see anything with a high magnification magnifying glass, the only two options are either live with it, or send it to someone who can diagnose it and do whatever microsoldering repairs are necessary. Unless someone else knows what the problem is for sure. It sounds like the logic board can't detect the home button most of the time and every once in a while it works. Also I'm guessing you already checked the connector right next to the home button.

Thanks for the help man.

I'm thinking about changing this cable. I had a bit of hard time when i made the switch to new screen. Sostituzione cavo tasto Home iPhone 6

Would it affect touch id sensor?

da

Yes. If that is torn, it would affect touch ID and or home button functionality depending on what parts are torn. Also if the insulation is worn off any where it could be grounding to the shield.

Hello Pompoko,

There is an IC on the Touch ID assembly that is keyed to the board. If the cable is damaged or replaced you will still have home button functionality but will lose touch ID. My guess is it was likely damaged upon removal, they are very sensitive. There is no way to repair this unless the damage can be found on the original home button flex and repaired. If you have a trusted shop nearby that does microsoldering I would reach out to them. It is not, however, a practical repair.

Hope this helps,

Holger
