Display Case is broke, replacement available?

Hi folks,

my MacBook Pro 15" case is kind of torn up, the thing is, its the back of the display. The MacBook is still working and I don't have any problems with it, but I would like to fix the case if possible.

I've added three pictures of my display and I would like to know if there is a replacement for this. Keep in mind that my display is still working, so I'm not really looking for a new display, rather a new body/case holding the display.

My display (3 Photos)

one of the pictures has a red circle around a crack inside the plastic part of the back. The other two pictures show the lower right and as you can see it is sticking out

You can replace the entire lid following this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody 2.53 GHz Mid 2009 Display Assembly Replacement and you'll need one of these parts depending on which you have (Gloss or Matte display):

Apple never offered the lid frame & cover as replaceable parts and frankly, if it did you would then need to buy all of the loose parts that make up the display unless you could salvage them from your old display which is not that easy without damaging or marring them up, let alone all of the time it would take you.

I've seen the Matte/Gloss Display Assembly replacement parts, but wasn't sure if the lid (the case) comes with it. So it actually is the lid and the display ? that would explain the 500 bucks :/ dang

Yes, it's the complete lid with the display and the other parts that make up the lid. From a repair perspective it's a much easier repair than trying to rebuild the lid from all of the loose parts.

thank you Dan, very helpful!
