Freezes and goes to a black screen

My Alcatel One Touch Idol phone, which I've had for two months is just beginning to have errors.

Whenever I am on my phone, texting, gaming, etc. My screen will completely freeze and after a few moments go black. This requires me to reboot my phone OVER and OVER again. How can I fix this without getting a new phone. Would a factory reset be beneficial?
