Screen Ghosting after Panel Replacement and Cleaning, Taping, etc.

My latest repair has me stumped. I've fixed three Minis (A1432) previously without too much drama. However, I can't fix digitizer ghosting on this one. I've used Kapton tape everywhere necessary, and I've even taped the cable in a few spots thinking that was the cause. There are ghost touches even when left laid open. What's really odd is it will be fine for 1 to 2 minutes and then start ghosting. Again this occurs even if the digitizer is left laid open and not on the frame/lcd panel. I've checked the connection ports multiple times. I've removed all debris and clean the screen multiple times.

I've done the following:

- Used Kapton tape on all exposed copper on the bottom of the device

- Double-checked the ports, no broken or bent pins

- Carefully installed the digitizer cable

- Used Katpon tape on the digitizer cable itself and parts

- Cleaned the screen/digitizer carefully

See for yourself: https://goo.gl/photos/wTjcAD2oweioCKfc6

Again, the screen will ghost even if it's laid open. It will work fine for 60 or 120 seconds then start going crazy.

Any thoughts?

Update (05/10/2016)

I ordered a replacement digitizer from iFixit, which worked fine for a few minutes. After test fitting everything twice and making sure it was in working order I resealed the panel to the frame. Suddenly after a few minutes the digitizer suddenly stopped responding altogether. Oy!

You tried a different digitizer?

@rany I just ordered a replacement. We'll see if that's the cause.

@rany Installed the replacement screen and digitizer worked for a while then suddenly stopped responding :0 No ghosting though.

Did you try reboot? Did you install shield and screws over the flat cables? You can loose touch if the cables come undone, something is disturbed (connector pins are broken from testing so many times or component pried off the board) or the touch IC can go bad, the latter being the least likely.

This has been a problem with iPad Mini's for a long time, especially the 1st gen ones.

As odd as this sounds, this worked for me when I had an iPad mini that did this. Attach the screen back on and on the aluminium casing on the back, use a hairdryer / heatgun and heat it up all over until the ipad turns off because its too hot. After this, just leave it to cool down and it should provide a fix.
