Is my MacBook dead?

Today I got my new display for my Macbook Pro 13 Retina late 2012. Its not my first time repairing a Mac and I'm always very careful. I followed the IFIXIT guideto change it.

On step 9 it says to remove the battery contact board. So I followed that step too. Then I finally change the display, put everything back by following the guide backwards

I turned the mac on and it showed the "Service Battery" notification. I reset the SMC and then when I tried to turn on the macbook again it wasn't possible. Neither the magsafe light is green/orange.

What happened? It fried? Is dead? I just payed 500$ plus the shipping plus the custom fees for that display and I have this problem. If its fried what am I going to do with the new display? Can I send it back and have a refund? Can I send the whole macbook for parts? (ssd etc)

And here is someone with the same problem as me, by disconnecting the battery contact board

Sounds like you damaged it in the process.

As for which way to go, disconnecting the battery or not. It gets into which way you risk damaging your system.

Many people often just put their systems into sleep mode and not realize it so pulling the SSD or display could in fact cause a major failure of the logic board. With the older MacBook's swapping out the memory would also kill things.

So it's really important in making sure the system is really OFF and making sure you are using proper ESD protocols.

OK, so it's safer to disconnect the battery while the system is in sleep mode? NO! You will also damage the logic board! So again, you need to make sure the system is really OFF! Before you disconnect the battery.

But, now what happens when we are working on the system with the battery still plugged in and our finger slips hitting the power button? Opps! Not good either! The same could be said if you drop a screw in or short something with your screwdriver still not good!

So the bottom line here is making sure the system is really off before disconnecting the battery and being careful not the damage the connector or cable of the battery when you disconnect it. As long as you have done things correctly you should not have any issues. Again, don't forget following proper ESD protocols!

What if I'm really, really careful can I leave the battery plugged in? I personally see it as being too risky. Yes, I know people who do it and I've done it a few times too! But, I would not do it with a customers system. Also remember I've been doing this a long time so my skills are honed are yours?

Hey thanks for your answer. The computer was shutdown properly. I had it with broken display connected via HDMI on a tv for watching movies. Before the procedure I shut it down. And it opened one time! It worked with the new display! After resetting the SMC it brick! So what now? What can I do?

OK, let's do this disconnect the internal display connection and the battery connection board (don't forget the connection block) now carefully plug in the external display and the MagSafe charger any difference?

Nope.. Didn't work.

Sorry guy, new logic board time ;-{

hah no way my friend. Just payed 500$ for the display and if I decide to buy and a logic board some hundreds more . I could buy a new MacBook. I'll try to sell the whole macbook. Perfect display, ssd, keyboard, I/O, Bluetooth wifi, TouchPad etc. I wonder if ifixit accept a return with the initial display and all the parts
