Replaced battery, now having power and sim issues

I should preface this and say my phone has water damage. Dropped it in a bucket of water, finally turned on 3 days later but only when plugged into AC & it would show the connect to itunes screen and tell me my IMEI number is unkown. When unplugging it would turn off immediately (despite saying 100% battery) and when I plugged it into my laptop's usb it would just show the apple logo and reboot as if it weren't getting enough juice.

Fast forward a week and I get the wild idea to leave it plugged in overnight. It would get really warm when plugged into AC power and I thought maybe that would dry out everything. I came back in the next day and it was working as normal, though with a shorter battery life. I have been using it like this for about a month now

I ordered a battery from ifixit and took the whole thing apart today. I put it back together to the best of my ability but noticed the sim card didn't fit in quite as well. I almost had to jam it in. The phone came back up fine but with an error that the sim was missing. I decided to take it all apart again & put it back together, thinking maybe something was disconnected. I tried to also get the sim card slot at the same height but for the life of me couldn't figure out how Apple got it this way to begin with. The screws were as tight as they would go but the sim card holder was still slightly raised.

Anyways now when I turn it on it acts exactly as it did when it had the initial water damage. The screen telling me to connect to itunes and the info saying it can't detect my IMEI number. I realize the phone was already damaged but it just seems like too much of a coincidence that it was working fine but now all of a sudden does not work after I take it apart. On the plus side it now does not get blazing hot when plugged into AC.

My questions are:

1. Does anyone think I did something wrong reassembling this to cause this problem?

2. Has anyone else had issues with the sim card slot after reassembly?

Thanks for your help!

you need to take the motherboard back out and replace it SIM slot end first-the motherboard sits just under the lip of the SIM slot. if it isn't in right the battery contacts etc at the opposite end may not line up hence the problems with booting up.
