Upgrading to 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD

I'm seeing different threads of the mid 2012's and the RAM and SSD recommendations being so different in price.

I've seen the SSD from $120 to $500, extremely confusing.

can someone help me choose a decent priced 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD that will for sure be compatible. This is my Mac

About my Mac:

-MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

-Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

-Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

-Startup Disk Macintosh HD

A hybrid (SSHD) is not a SSD, it's a traditional HD with a deeper cache. Don't get me wrong here, I do like them as a 1/2 step to the more expensive SSD of the same size. For simplicity think the SSHD is nothing more than a faster HD. Review this for more details: Seagate Laptop SSHD

The RAM you need: 1600 MHz PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM SO-DIMMs (204-pin). As to price thats tricky! You'll find prices all over the place. Sometimes its related to where you live. I would recommend sticking to the major memory suppliers as they offer better warranty.

As to the SSD: Here you'll find quite a range in prices. A lot of it being the type of SSD technology being used as well as the products lifespan warranty. As an example Samsung offers two lines of 2.5" SSD's the 850 EVO and the 850 PRO. The Pro version is more expensive and really only useful in a business critical environment. You will find the EVO is just as good for a typical user system.

i was told that since i always have my messages app open, safari and photos open and sending/editing pictures 16 would be best for me. but thats 1 man's opinion. what do you think? thank you for replying by the way

Editing large photos does use more RAM space but even still you don't always need to go to 16 GB of RAM. Its best to check how much RAM you are really using and how much of it is virtual RAM to gage how much real RAM would be ideal for your needs. Frankly, I find 10 or 12 GB meets most users needs.
