iMac stuck on a white screen, replace the RAM?

Hello,

My current 2008 iMac is not booting and stuck on the white loading screen. I only have 1gb of RAM in the computer and run both windows and OS from it. Do you think upgrading the RAM will solve the issue?

Thanks a lot:

Actually, no. It's probably the hard drive. Try booting from your original system installation disk. Insert the disk on start up, hold down the "C" key, go to the second page pull down menu and run Disk Utilities on the hard drive.

Some more RAM wouldn't hurt at all! You can add just one at a time.

I agree with Mayer here you more likely have a HD issue. But if you are running Window's & Mac OS you should max the memory to 4 GB (Apple's limit) or 6 GB which 3rd parties have found will work. Review the link in your Q for more info.

If your HD is struggling it might make sense upgrading to a SSHD like Seagate's Desktop SSHD. You'll only need the smaller 1 TB drive. Unlike many drives today, you need a drive that runs at SATA II (3.0 Gb/s).
