Plugged my iPod into a a power adapter that was plugged in.

I can't imagine this has happened to anybody and if so the occurrence must be so small it's like winning the lottery minus the money. I happened to plug my iPod classic into a power adapter for an old Atari game system that happens to use a 1/8 inch jack that fits into the headphone jack.

I was just trying to plug the iPod into an auxiliary wire that I normally do, to play it with some bookshelf speakers obviously not knowing that both jacks looked the same. The power adapter was also plugged in to the wall at the time sending current to the iPod. The iPod has not had a problem with the battery at all over the years and worked like a champ. After plugging it in not knowing it was the wrong wire it completely drained the battery and won't start up anymore.

Do you think I just killed the battery or possibly fried other components inside as well?

Thanks for your replies. I ordered the battery so I'll see what happens after I replace it. Even if the audio amp is fried I'm just hoping this thing starts up again so I can get the data off of it. Crossing my fingers.

Arg this doesn't sound good at all try charging it on a normal charger and if that doesn't work than sorry your outa luck, and if it does you will be extremely lucky if it hasn't destroyed the audio amp inside.

You just Short circuited battery - Apple has very specific pin order on the connector. If you are very lucky ( Lotto again) it is just battery dead ( don't try anything with battery on ) and after replacement, everything will be OK. It is not so expensive so definitely worth to try with new one.

Usually, Docking port needs to be replaced - and if you are really unlucky - you have a problem on MB which means that your friendship with old iPod is over.

hmm... above statement is not correct - I just realise that you are talking about iPod Classic - all the same, just there is no separate Charging board - just Motherboard.
