Error 53: An iPhone repair horror story

So, I posted a topic earlier about a battery replacement I was doing. I stripped the screws, but I was able to get them out, and the battery installed. Phone booted and worked fine. Then I realized I forgot to put that backplate in. So I opened it up, installed it, booted up the phone...and I had lines on the screen. Okay. I opened up the phone again, reattach the cables. I repeated this several times. Couldn't get the lines out.

I found a few third party iPhone repair places and they all said my screen needed to be replaced. Whatever. At this point, I just wanted it fixed. So I got it done, and I notice there's a black mark on the screen. Hard to see, but it's there. It was the last replacement they had, but they promised they'd get more in later this week. Okay, I can live with that.

But wait. Touch ID doesn't work either. Luckily I noticed this while I was in the repair shop. I'd heard about Error 53, (and so did they––they actually brought it up) but they swore it's an OEM part. I went home, chatted with an Apple rep, who suggested restoring the phone––BAM. Error 53, bricked phone.

So frustrated, not sure what to do now. Guess I will wait until a new screen comes in. Maybe it will fix the problem. Pretty sure it won't, though. Hopefully they will give me a refund and I'll just have Apple take care of it. What I should have done in the first place.

Hi markbiswas,

The Error 53 is for security reasons. It is important because a person shouldn't access the data stored in iPhone after changed hardware. You iPhone won't be fixed because a hardware piece have changed. The only way is to get a new iPhone.

I hope I was helpful.

Bye!

You weren't, but thanks anyway. I did chat with Apple and told them everything, and they said it won't require a new phone. I have seen those reports, though.
