home button works but touch id doesn't work

I want to make it clear before i began is NO I DID NOT REPLACE THE HOME BUTTON , home button is still original.

i replaced the screen, turned on phone home button works just fine but touch id doesn't, so i opened it back up to make sure flex wasn't damaged and seated properly, it is seated properly and there is no damage to flex cable, there was one link i stumbled upon when googling this issue was someone somewhere mentioned something about once you open there is chance that touch id doesn't ground properly, therefore home button works but touch id doesnt, can any one verify this? and where would the ground for touch id would be?

i reseted phone from setting app but that didn't fix the issue, i don't want to risk getting stuck on error 53 by restoring from itunes and be without phone

This problem happens when you disconnect the homebutton while the iPhone is still on. Just restore the iPhone and the touch id will work again.

Hi,

I've got the same problem with my iPhone 6. Screen got replaced, home button got switched over to the new screen and home button still works but Touch ID not any more. I did some research on this problem and some sites and vloggers recommend you to replace the Home Button Flex Cable. Vloggers say that this cable is extremely sensitive. If you disconnect your Home Button, the Touch ID port on the flex cable "shuts" down. I haven't tried this myself because I can't get hands on the part right now.

As soon as I tried it, I'll confirm it.

Hi,

  • Reset all settings seems to alleviate the problem works for me, sometimes it takes up to 10 goes for it to work.
  • Change charging dock, I have had a few instances where doing this fixed the Touch ID
  • Restore IOS, try up to 5-10 times.
  • clean connector with a bit of alcohol

Report back to say if these worked for you.

Nick.

Non of those things worked, but Apple has officially released new build of 9.2.1 to solve the issue http://www.redmondpie.com/ios-9.2.1-13d2...

Could be a damaged rail on the logic board if you didn’t have proper ESD equipment when doing the repair. I’ve damaged a couple iPhone 7s that way and because the home button on 7 and up isn’t mechanical the phone was useless without replacing the logic board.
