Just purchased a new 3rd party battery which was working fine when I fitted it but once it went flat it seems to not turn on, the charge indicator is present when plugging the lightning connector in though. My thoughts are that the latest update might be preventing it from charging but I need someone to clarify.
Any Suggestions?

Hi Ben,
This is most likely a faulty battery, swap it out for another one like the ones shown here on the iFixit store. A good quality, 'known good' battery will help troubleshoot first. If this does not solve it, check for pry damage around the battery connector and report back. It could be u2 ic but I think it's unlikely this is the case.
Software side of things I believe is unlikely. Sure, you could try a DFU restore but I can't see this having any effect, definetely sounds like a hardware issues to me.
