What is cause of VERY faint broad vertical black and white bands?

I have a iMac Intel 20" EMC 2210 Early 2008 Core 2 Duo processor. I replaced the hard drive in the unit and everything seems to be fine, except I can see some VERY faint broad black and white vertical bands. I can't say that they were there before, because the unit was passed to me without a hard drive and therefore I couldn't really check it out. Could the HD replacement disturbed a screen connection and would possibly re-seating them help?

What OS X are you running?

El Capitan (most recent updates included). The O/S runs absolutely fine in every way I can see, although it is likely the last one that this machine will be able to run. I also should note that the vertical banding is only really visible on grey or light blue screens and even then can be a bit hard to see.

See if an external display shows the same symptoms. Sadly, it maybe the LCD that got damaged somewhere along the line.

Thanks, Dan. I really appreciate your help. The external display looks fine. My friend told me that the unit has had heavy use, which may have had something to do with it. I was VERY careful about disassembly, panel storage and reassembly. (Although, admittedly, any messing with the screen connections could cause issues.) After all was said and done, my friend couldn't even see anything amiss until it was specifically pointed out. He was quite happy with the result. It really is that faint. If the screen gets worse to the point of being a real problem, it might still be worth replacing it at that time. I'm more comfortable now with poking around in a Mac, so it should not be a big job.

Does it look like a ghost image? Sometimes the LCD gets burnt-in with a static image. You can also damage the LCD by pressing on the back of it.

Mine are caused by my cigarette smoking . So every two years or so I take the display glass out and clean it and it's like new.

Had to take it apart to replace the drive, so I cleaned the glass well prior to closing up the unit. So; this is not the cause.
