How to fix water damaged charging port?

In December I had bought a Moto G2 which I adored so much I showered with it and it fell in. I rescued it and it worked fine and everything, instead of drying it out properly I used it and put it on the charger overnight which must of fried the insides of it. RIP. Yesterday I went to the beach with my brand new Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 and what happens with my luck? (or stupidity)... It falls into the ocean and gets completely drowned . Great :) I immediately turned it off and let it sit in the sun for a few hours while I swam and enjoyed a few beers. I assumed it was dry so I turned it on and everything worked fine. When I got home I left it in rice overnight and then charged it up till around 50% and I took it with me on a walk. By the time I got home I wanted to charge it some more and now its not charging past 18%. When the phone is on it wont charge at all, but when I turn it off and plug in the charger it blinks the charging light. Does this need a shop fix? Or is there something I can do myself to make it charge? Help please ! My dad can't know about this yet, I have spent $550 on new phones in one month! And there isn't a way i'll be splashing out for another one

I just dropped my charger port in my sink full of water. Is it safe to charge my IPhone5

For everyone who has dropped their phone in water and it works fine, but can’t charge it, check to see if the charger has burnt marks on it. Your phone could’ve still had water in it.

My step daughter has an obsession with her fathers phone long story short, she dumped her plate of food on the phone, and claims it was only on the screen (which has a shield) but yet 20 minutes later begins to question her dad about his phone acting funny, does this happen all the time....blah blah blah.... this happened when she plugged the charger into the phone, idk he told her to turn it off but he did. Now it wont turn on because it is dead, but wont charge. I checked the charger plug like the last person suggested, sure enough its burnt. Anybody know if I can charge the phone on a charging station, or is the phone now fried? the screen lights up to show that it needs to be plugged into the charger, so the screen does work.

First off Rice is for cooking and wont dry anything. its a tv thing. Start by taking the phone apart.Clean ever connection with a soft toothbrush. As well clean the logic board use a 99% isopropal alcohol for all cleaning. now is the time to start drying out the phone. Set the screen in a desiccant or silica gel leave it in for several day moving it from time to time to get the max effect from the desiccant . use a blow dryer on a low heat setting to dry the rest of the phone. Only use a hair dryer once you have cleaned the phone completely with the alcohol. Do not attempt to dry the phone if its still wet with water with the blow dryer as this only spreds the water. Replace the battery with a new one consider the old ones done. a battery is never right after it gets wet. Clean again with isopropal alcohol let dry and when you think everything is clean and dry reassemble the phone (make sure to clean the contacts on the screen after removing from the desiccant). Once you've reassembled the phone its time to power it on. Hold your breath and hope for the best

this shows how to get into the phone but you need to go farther and take everything apart you need to clean both sides of the motherboard. take your time when taking it apart keep your parts in order so you know where they go back to and make sure you put screws in right order .

You're wrong dude. Rice works great and it does absorb water. That's why restaurants put it in salt shakers.

Hi @Mike Queen

This may be of interest to you.

If it worked for you, it may be that you were one of the luckier ones although don't be surprised if your device fails a bit further down the track.

Getting rid of the moisture is not the problem. It is the corrosion that has taken place and will continue to take place until it has been cleaned away.

Well... if you're not used to taking apart cell phones. I wouldn't suggest doing this yourself. Try to find a shop that does water damage cleaning. They may be able to salvage the phone, by cleaning it with 90 proof isopropyl alcohol and probably a new battery

General answer for all electronics dropped into water:

  • Immediately remove battery.
  • Gently shake out as much water as possible.
  • LEAVE to dry, at least two days, in a vertical position so remaining water drains by gravity.
  • Visually inspect for water droplets using a magnifying glass, if you have one.
  • Then re-insert battery and test phone.

Rice was stuck in my port! Thank you very much, I would have not thought To look for that. My cable would not plug in because of the piece of rice blocking the port. Much appreciated!!

If ur phone is water damaged and you try and charge it it would work for like 2 times then it would be burnt so it wouldn’t charge afterwards

I’ve had this problem too. Just today, my German Shepherd knocked my phone out of My hands and it dropped into his water bowl. It worked just fine, up until it was time to change it. It would show the charging symbol for about 3 seconds then go blank. I have an iPhone 6 so this may not apply to everyone. First off, TURN THE PHONE OFF!!! Completely!!! If it is not working, do a hard reset. Then, remove the SIM card. If it has a red color that means there is water damage to the inside of the phone and there is nothing you can do about it. If it is white or grey, that means there is no damage to the inside of the phone and you can proceed to the next step. Put the SIM card back in and turn on the phone. Put it on charger and see if it works. If not, take it to your carriers nearest store to get it fixed.

would you recommend trying to get it replaced by insurance or trying to get it fixed? do you think they can fully fix it at a service? i dropped mine in the bath (stupid) and it seemed fine, then i put it on the charger and didnt think to see if it was working bc i assumed it was but i looked about 2-3 hours later and it wasnt. its been drying ever since and idk what to do, i havent tried charging it in abt 24hrs(advice of the internet), its also gone flat.. ;/
