AC adapter broke its self?

I recently bought a new power cord and battery from iFixit which worked amazingly.

But today, my computer lost power (even though it was plugged in) and I thought it might just be because some connections were loose, or maybe I needed to adjust something.

But after me trying to change power outlets in my house, and assuring myself that connections were fine, I came to the conclusion that my cord was broken, but I had no clue why; It had happened so spontaneously. Then I thought about what could have made it die and what I think the problem was, is that it over heated itself to melt whatever is in that block part of the cable. I noticed that the "block part's" (I am not very knowledgeable on the subject of computer terminology) plastic cover was warped and bumpy all over it. I don't want to have to buy another cord, is there anything I can do?

I am in school, and I need my computer for a lot of assignments, so ordering a cord would be one of the least desirable options.

Thank you for putting in some of your time to read this. :-)

IFIXIT will replace your power cord if it was defective. I would first do that.

If the power supply is dead then its time for a new one. They are not safe to open or try to repair. Your local electronics store or radio shop should have a compatible one. I suggest calling a local computer repair shop. They tend to have many extra power supplies, and can sell you a used OEM one.

Not sure if I can name specific stores, but you should get the hint.

Hope this helps a bit. Happy repairs!

@toupeescalper - Mac's use a custom power adapter so you can't just use anything. The AC cord its' self is a standard EU connector.

Mac adapters are available at electronics stores, radio shops and local repair shops. At least here in the US.

I think you're thinking of the iPhone USB chargers, Yes, they'er all over the place! Sadly, the MacBook/MacBook Pro power adapters aren't as readily available. He'll need a 60 Watt unit.

Mag safe power supplies (60w) are available at best buy, radio shack, and many repair shops in the US. The main point is not to open it and try to fix it unless you are familiar with SMPS ciruits.

da

Agreed! They aren't worth fixing and if you do you put your self at risk. You missed the point on the availability of the power needed power adapter. Not everyone has a BestBuy near them.
